Background
The Great Western Railway 56XX class is a type of 2-cylinder 4-6-0 steam locomotive designed for the Great Western Railway by Charles Collett between 1924 and 1928. A total of 200 locomotives were built and withdrawn from service between 19562 and 1966.
Nine members of this class are preserved to this day, and are currently members of the National Railway Collection.
