Background
The Southern Railway Merchant Navy class is a type of 3-cylinder 4-6-2 steam locomotive designed for the Southern Railway by Oliver Bullied in between 1956 and 1960. A total of 30 locomotives were built and withdrawn from service between 1964 and 1967.
Eleven members of this class are preserved to this day, and are currently members of the National Railway Collection.
