Background
The London & North Eastern Railway A1 Class is a type of 3-cylinder 4-6-2 steam locomotive designed for the London & North Eastern Railway by Arthur Peppercorn in between 1948 and 1949. A total of 49 locomotives were built and withdrawn from service between 1962 and 1966.
None of the original A1's exist today, but a new member No.60163 'Tornado' was built in 2008, and is currently a member of the National Railway Collection.
